Jeb Dunnuck 97 Points: “The 2023 Syrah Cinématique Larner Vineyard is a step up over the Bien Nacido and offers more depth, richness, and length. Coming from a great site in the Ballard Canyon region of Santa Barbara County, its deep ruby/purple hue is followed by an awesome nose of black raspberries, scorched earth, peppery herbs, and flowers. With medium to full-bodied richness on the palate, it has a supple, elegant mouthfeel, soft, velvety tannins, terrific overall balance, and a great finish. Readers looking for a quintessential Syrah should look no further. There’s no need to delay gratification, but this will continue drinking beautifully for another decade.”
Vinous 95 Points: “The 2023 Syrah Larner Vineyard Cinématique is an exuberant, potent wine with imposing structure and power to burn. Chalky, powdery Ballard Canyon tannins wrap tightly around a core of ultra-ripe brambly black fruit and mocha, but the door slams shut on the finish. The Cinématique is a ball of nerves today, though the future is very bright. Give it at least a couple of years to unclench its fists.”
Paul Lato Notes: “Coming from the famous organic Larner Vineyard of Ballard Canyon, the Cinématique is a New World Syrah at its best. This always elegant and energetic wine showcases elevated notes of star anise, violet flowers, and cherries. Velvety textured, silky yet powerful it finishes long and strong.”
