Vintage Notes: The 2022 vintage began smoothly, with a welcome relief from a three-year drought, courtesy of plentiful rainfall at the end of 2021 and into the beginning of the year. Budbreak arrived early, and while there were intermittent heat spikes throughout the summer, nothing was quite as dramatic as the extreme temperatures that descended on the Valley over Labor Day weekend. Our Estate Cabernet Sauvignon was harvested beginning on September 12th. Supported by a deep root system dating back to 1990, the vineyard handled the heat impressively, maintaining sugar levels instead of experiencing a sudden increase as might be expected. The resiliency of these vines is a testament to the deficit irrigation practiced there which encourages adaptability to the whims of Mother Nature. This inaugural vintage of MOWE brilliantly highlights the exceptional quality of our Estate Vineyard, exuding expressiveness, impeccable balance, and refreshing vibrancy”
Tasting Notes: “A bit reserved at first, but with some air and time in a decanter the wine opens up brilliantly to brambly black fruit, macerated black cherry, sage, crushed rose petal, and pipe tobacco. Fine-grained and elegant tannins frame the wine as undertones of cardamon and red currant emerge, with freshness and medium-full weight on the lengthy and memorable finish.”
