Captain Heidi Barrett Notes: “Avast, mateys – it’s a new vintage of Pirate TreasuRed! The first year I worked on this wine, in 2007, the result was not what I expected, but something even better. Because the original blend used seven varietals, the ‘Treasure of the Seven Seas’ idea was a natural inspiration for the Pirate name. Each year the blend changes slightly – in 2019 I used 7 varietals to create this big, bold, raucous blend that stands out because of its finesse and complexity. It’s been a wonderful 13 vintages of spreading good Pirate cheer and of course, simply the best grog this side of Davey Jones’ Locker. We hope you love this latest edition of Pirate TreasuRed. Arrrrrr!”

Tasting Notes: The 2019 Pirate is very dark ruby in color with deep, ripe aromas of primarily black fruits – black cherry and wild blackberry, with nuances of vanilla, fruitcake, mocha, and a touch of savory smoked meat. Nicely layered fruit flavors with a plush, textural mouthfeel and good length. The tannins are moderate and silky, and the French oak is subtle and well-integrated. The overall impression is a big, voluptuous-yet-balanced mouthful of delicious flavors. 2019 made wines of great concentration and very good age-ability. Delectable & ready to enjoy upon release – ARGHHH!

The 2019 Priate is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Malbec, Grenache, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Petite Sirah. 

Suggested pairings: BBQ ribs, pulled pork, jerk chicken, wood-fired pizza, hearty red sauce, brisket, gourmet burgers, chorizo/spicy sausage, and many others – quite a versatile wine.
