WE 95 Points: “This lavish, indulgent blend based on Cabernet Franc woos you with dark- and milk-chocolate aromas. These are followed by deep, broad and delicious flavors of black cherries, black currants, mocha, vanilla and cinnamon that won’t quit. Moderate tannins are well integrated, so drink it now to 2030.”
Jeb Dunnuck 95 Points: “The 2021 Cabernet Franc A.V.A Red Blend checks in as 54% Cabernet Franc, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance Malbec that was aged 22 months in barrel. Spiced red plums, black cherries, damp flowers, and leather are just some of the nuances in this puppy, and it’s medium to full-bodied, with a ripe, forward, charming style that’s already hard to resist. I wouldn’t push the aging curve, but I see no reason this shouldn’t evolve gracefully for 8-10 years.”
FMW 95+ Points: Deep ruby in color, this wine displays a gorgeous nose of dark ripe plum, cocoa powder, hot tamale candy, and sandalwood spice. Silky friendly tannins and medium body elegantly frame the fruit on the palate which lingers through the wine’s lengthy and seamless finish. This blend of Cabernet Franc is drinking beautifully now and will cellar well over the next ten years.
Pam Starr Notes: “A.V.A. stands for American Viticulture Area, and for us it represents the culmination of sustainable viticulture, the resurrection of our 1870s winery, and classic winemaking. The bouquet on the front label ties into our rich history, as it and our 1870s Victorian home originate from a Sears & Roebuck catalog. Inspired by the great wines of the right bank of Bordeaux, our A.V.A. St. Helena’s blend of Cabernet Franc serves as the perfect introduction to the Crocker & Starr portfolio. “
