B Kosuge 2023 Rose of Pinot Noir “The Shop” Carneros

Byron Kosuge Notes: “I was tasting through all my barrels a few days ago and when I got to the Rosé I thought “damn, this reminds me of why I started making Rosé in the first place back in 2012.” That wine was just so fruity and quaffable that I had to put it in a bottle. The 2023 is the same. In 2022 I began picking a small portion of The Shop specifically for Rose. Lower sugar and higher acid, less ripe flavors. Then, as the red wine fruit started coming in, I drew off a little of the juice from each fermenter to augment the juice I had pressed from the earlier picked grapes, thinking that this mix of riper and less ripe juice would give me the best of both worlds.  It worked. My 2023 is perhaps a little more generous than the 2022 or 2021, but it is so juicy and yummy that it’s hard to resist! It is fermented with naturally occurring yeast in neutral oak barrels, where it stays until I bring it up to the tank in January to prepare it for bottling.”
