Walter Hansel 2021 Pinot Noir “Cuvée Alyce” Russian River Valley – 95 Points
$49.95
Jeb Dunnuck 95 Points: “Dark and enveloping, the 2021 Pinot Noir Cuvée Alyce is the richest offering in this lineup. Pouring a deep red/purple, it’s saturated with aromas of boysenberry liqueur, lavender, cedar, and licorice. Ample and full-bodied, it remains light on its feet, with mouthwatering lift, well-integrated, ripe tannins, and smoky incense on the back palate. Give it another year or two to shed its considerable baby fat and drink 2025-2035.”

As usual, it’s a more approachable, polished Syrah compared to the Bien Nacido release. Drink bottles any time over the coming decade.”

Colgin 2018 Cariad Proprietary Red Blend Napa Valley 100 Points
$950.00 $799.99
Vinous 100 Points: : “The 2018 Cariad is breathtaking right out of the gate. What a wine! Bright acids and beams of underlying structure give the Cariad tons of energy that really drives its feel. Effusive and vibrant in the glass, with tons of pedigree, Cariad is drop-dead gorgeous in 2018. Winemaker Allison Tauziet opted not to use Petit Verdot in this vintage, choosing instead to use a bit more Franc. I can’t really say the wine is missing the Petit Verdot, while the Franc seems to give added aromatic explosiveness. Then again, all of this fruit is sourced from David Abreu’s Madrona Ranch, a stellar site with a stunning array of clones, including some pretty magical Franc.”
Detert 2019 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Oakville Napa Valley 95+ Points
$109.99
Vinous 95+ Points: “The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is another fabulous wine from Detert. It is a bit reticent today, but that should not be an issue in time. This classically built, medium to full-bodied Napa Valley Cabernet offers tons of depth as well as structure. It’s another super example of this sector of Oakville. The 2019 is not an immediate wine, though, so readers should plan on being patient.”
Carol Shelton 2022 Viognier “Wild Thing” Placer County 92 Points
$27.99
La Sirena 2021 Chardonnay, Russian River Valley 96 Points
$79.99
FMW 96 Points: “The 2021 La Sirena Chardonnay, Russian River offers up flinty and bright fruit aromatics. This lush, full-bodied wine showcases an elegant body loaded withs pure fruit, lime zest, green apple, umami richness, and a whiff of minearlity. The wine offers both power and elegance. Bright, freshly styled crushed white flowers, more apple fruit and a touch of toasty vanilla are a nice crescendo for this great youngster’s long finish.
Limerick Lane 2021 Zinfandel Banfield Russian River Valley 97 Points
$69.99 $63.99
Vinous 97 Points: “The 2021 Zinfandel Banfield Vineyard, from a site on Martinelli Road planted in 1880, is packed with varietal character. Muscular tannins wrap around a core of black fruit, licorice, spice, dried herbs and graphite. This virile, imposing Zinfandel packs quite the punch. I would cellar it for at least af ew years. Impressive.”
Morgado 2019 “Sugarloaf” Bordeaux Blend, Napa Valley 97 Points
$105.00 $89.99
Jeb Dunnuck 97 Points: “The 2019 Red Wine Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard is cut from the same cloth as the 2018 and has a rich, full-bodied, nicely layered style revealing big, chocolatey fruits as well as notes of scorched earth and graphite.”
Paul Lato 2021 “Stand by Me” Pinot Noir, Drum Canyon Vineyard, Sta. Rita Hills 97 Points
$99.99
Jeb Dunnuck 97 Points: “Darker cherries, black tea, leafy herbs, and sweet spice all emerge from the 2021 Pinot Noir Stand By Me Drum Canyon Vineyard, a layered, medium-bodied Pinot Noir revealing a terrific underlying sense of minerality, a focused, elegant mouthfeel, and a great finish. It has an age-worthy, nicely structured, balanced style that will benefit from a year or two of bottle age and evolve gracefully through 2031+.”

Dragonette 2021 Pinot Noir “Sanford and Benedict” Santa Barbara 96 Points
$79.99
James Suckling 96 Points: “Aromas of hibiscus, lemon, iron and strawberry follow through to a medium to full body with very fine tannins that melt into the wine. Lovely freshness. Succulent and juicy. Drink now or hold.
Jeb Dunnuck 96 Points: “The Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict Vineyard was 80% destemmed, which is a lot of stems by this estate’s standards, and spent 16 months in 40% new barrels. It’s another exotic, complex, incredibly satisfying Pinot Noir in the lineup that offers ripe red and black fruits, black tea, orange blossom, and spice-laced aromas and flavors. I love its texture, and it has terrific mid-palate depth, ripe tannins, and a great, great finish.
Hudson 2019 Phoenix “Bordeaux-Blend” Estate Carneros Napa Valley – 96 Points
$89.99
Vinous 96 points: “The 2019 Phoenix is a blend of 64% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon and 18% Cabernet Franc. It offers up soaring aromatics and pliant red-toned fruit, all in a mid-weight style that is hugely appealing. This beautifully balanced wine from Lee Hudson and his team is an absolute winner.”
Carlisle 2021 Zinfandel “Carlisle Vineyard” Russian River Valley 97 Points
$59.99
Jeb Dunnuck 97 Points: “Tons of auxiliary grapes go into the 2021 Zinfandel Carlisle Vineyard, which is deep red and ripe with cassis, cedar, bourbon spices, and peppercorn. Full-bodied, with both richness and an angular structure as well as silky fruit to balance it nicely, it offers notes of ripe red plum and black cherry, baking spices, mocha, and warming earth and is long on the palate. Drink 2024-2034.”
Pisoni 2021 Estate Chardonnay, Santa Lucia Highlands 96+ Points
$105.00 $94.99
Jeb Dunnuck 96+ Points: “Another brilliant wine from this family, the 2021 Chardonnay comes all from the estate Pisoni Vineyard in the southern part of the Santa Lucia Highlands. Unfortunately, it’s made in tiny quantities, but I consistently think it ranks with the finest Chardonnay in California. Honeyed lemon, pear, flowers, crushed stone, and a beautiful kiss of toasted walnuts define the aromatics, and it’s medium-bodied, vibrant, and elegant, with a liquid rock-like sense of minerality on the finish. It plays in the more elegant, focused, lengthy style of the vintage and is slightly closed and tight at present. Give bottles another 2-3 years in the cellar and enjoy through 2031. It’s a beautiful Chardonnay.”
Paul Lato 2021 “Suerte” Pinot Noir, Solomon Hills Vineyard, Santa Maria Valley 95 Points
$100.00
Jeb Dunnuck 95 Points: “I always love Lato’s Pinot Noir from this site, and his 2021 Pinot Noir Suerte Solomon Hills Vineyard is no exception. Revealing a ruby hue as well as gorgeous notes of wild strawberries, black tea, toasted spice, and exotic flowers, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a round, layered, supple texture, integrated tannins, and outstanding length. Drink this more up-front, fruit-loaded, gorgeous Pinot Noir over the coming 5-7 years.”
Kenefick 2019 Cabernet Chris’s Cuvée, Estate Napa Valley 95 Points
$64.99 $64.94
Pisoni 2021 “Estate” Pinot Noir, Santa Lucia Highlands – 96+ Points IN MAGNUM
$259.99
Jeb Dunnuck 96+ Points: “The 2021 Pinot Noir comes entirely from the Pisoni Vineyard in the southern portion of the Santa Lucia Highlands. It was only partially destemmed and was raised in 68% new French oak. It’s a truly gorgeous effort offering serious aromatics of cassis, darker raspberries, spicy oak, graphite, and crushed stone. Incredibly pure, vibrant, and precise aromatically, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a stacked mid-palate, lots of building tannins, and a great finish. This concentrated, focused, age-worthy beauty needs at least 2-3 years to integrate its structure and tannins and will evolve brilliantly over the following decade. Bravo!
