Vinous 92 Points: “The 2021 Tomboy is spicy and wickedly fresh, with an array of musky dried peaches and apricots offset by ground ginger hints. This is texturally thrilling, oily and nearly glycerol in feel. Saline minerals underscore ripe orchard fruits and a touch of tropical citrus. It finishes energetic and almost salty in style, adding a lovely contrast to the experience. Herman Story pushes Viognier to the limits here. yet the balance can not be denied.”
RUSSEL FROM (OWNER/WINEMAKER) TASTING NOTES: “On the shore, she’s all grilled pineapple, white peach sorbet, and white-ower lei—but once the swell comes in, she means business.
Dropping in on a giant wave, she conjures gasps from the throng of kettle-corn-crunching onlookers. She’ll never make it, says one. Here comes a wipeout, says another. But she cuts a tangerine-citrus streak through the rich honeydew water, absolutely lying. She’s the image of high-velocity grace, and stoic dynamism on a razor-sharp board. She rides it all the way in, lingers in the shore’s tropical sweetness, then heads back out. Someone’s got to show these kooks how it’s done.”
WINERY NOTES: “Tomboy is the white wine for the red wine drinker and the only white wine at Herman Story. Focused on texture and explosive aromatics, the Rhône white is for those tired of stainless and concrete. It is not sweet, and not for wimps.”
