For many, Nuts & Bolts functions as the Herman Story Gateway Drug. Each vintage delivers a Syrah of exceptional structure, body and power. Nuts & Bolts is built of the most opulent, expressive Syrah barrels in the cellar.
Winery Notes: These reworks have crossed three state lines in the back of a wood-paneled station wagon, because there’s no way you’re getting shown up by Jed Miller again. We’re talking strawberry strobes, blueberry bursts, and sweet basil ares, synchronized to AC/DC and the swoons of cul de sac housewives. After the chocolate ice cream melted and the headlight-illuminated volleyball winds down, you strike your match and the whole pile goes up in a shimmering blaze of glory. Misdemeanors and lifetime block party bans be damned—that’s a show no one will forget.
Tasting Notes: Dark purple. Powerful, smoke- and spice-accented aromas of ripe blackberry, cherry liqueur, vanilla and olive paste are lifted by a suave, building floral element. Sweet, seamless and deeply concentrated, offering plush black and blue fruit preserve, cherry-vanilla, mocha and floral pastille flavors that spread out steadily on the back half. The sweet, pliant, impressively long finish is given shape by slow-building tannins that fold slowly into the wine’s lush dark fruit. 83% new French oak.
