Jeb Dunnuck 95 Points: “Coming from vines near To Kalon in Oakville, the Detert Cabernet Franc Oakville is a sensational expression of the variety offering loads of ripe, smoky red and black currant-like fruits as well as notes of camphor, forest floor, baking spices, and chocolate on the nose. It’s slightly more perfumed and herbal compared to the Cabernet Sauvignon, with a solid floral/foresty edge that emerges with time in the glass, and it’s medium to full-bodied, has a layered, opulent, classic 2019 mouthfeel, velvety tannins, and a great finish. It’s beautiful Cabernet Franc to drink over the coming 15 years or so.”
Vinous 95 Points: “The 2021 Cabernet Franc is a gorgeous, large-scaled wine. Dark fruit, mocha, dried herbs, leather and licorice are beautifully delineated. There’s plenty of size, power and structure, but also less oak heaviness. This tastes like To Kalon with the added kick of saline brightness that is such a signature of Franc. ”
Winemaker Notes: “Rich, textured and powerful – showing the delicious vibrancy and intensity of the vintage. This is a classic, layered Cabernet Franc showcasing aromas of dark berries, violets, and minerals. Plush and energetic in the mouth where the baking chocolate, black cherry, and savory herb notes cascade over a dense, rich backbone. Exceptional. 85% Cabernet Franc, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon”
