The Story: The owner /winemaker of Desparada, Vailia From, is the wife of Russell From the owner/winemaker of Herman Story. Desparada is the culmination of 19 years of traveling and working for and in wine. Vailia has seen every side of the industry, from winemaking to harvesting, to importing, cold calling for sales, to managing brokerages, to working on restaurant floors, and managing a mobile bottling line. There’s something in wine that keeps her going. She’s a traveler by nature, and Desparada is what carries here. A no-nonsense lady, making no-nonsense, well-priced and good quality wines with a twist.
Winemaker Notes: “Wrinkles in time, post apocalyptic blackberry bush, Brad Pitt going out with a normal girl, Persian rug in a cave, licking plums, rendezvous. The wine is a blend of 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Cabernet Franc, 26% Syrah & 18% Grenache. The grapes were sourced from some amazing Central Coast vineyards: 44% Bien Nacido, 21% Rangeland, 14% Lunacy & 21% Star Lane.”
Robert Parker 94 Points :”The Borderlands is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Grenache, aged in 25% new French oak. Deep ruby-purple in color, it has deep, appealing scents of cassis with touches of blueberries, mint chocolate and top notes of citrus. Medium to full-bodied, the palate offers full fruit in a restrained, grainy frame, and it finishes long, layered and very fresh. A very drinkable blended red! “
