Jeb Dunnuck 98+ Points: “The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon The Grand Daddy is just about pure magic in a glass, and it will probably merit a triple-digit rating in another 4-5 years. A stunning array of blueberries, melted licorice, cassis, scorched earth, violets, and tobacco soar from the glass of this deep, saturated purple (almost blue) 2018. Gorgeously concentrated, full-bodied, packed with sweet fruit, yet still weightless and elegant on the palate, it’s another magical wine from Carter Cellars. Drink bottles any time over the coming 25+ years or more.”
Winery Notes: “From the very front of the Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard, this block produced exceptional wines in 2018 as a result of great farming and cluster thinning matched with talented winemaking and blending. These older clone 4 vines offer our most upfront, and instantly appealing wine from this vineyard. Dark blackberry fruits, earthy spice, and rich cool soil intertwine to create a lavish multilayered wine, that then leads to an enormous mid-palate buttressed perfectly by the wine’s natural acidity and gripping tannins. Offering a unique amount of ripeness and texture, this is an elegant wine wrapped up in a cloak of raw but refined power. While drinking great now, allow this wine to age and watch it reach its full potential.”
