In 1956, a San Francisco dentist and his wife purchased 121 acres on Westside Road in the Russian River Valley (16 acres under vine). In 1964 he added Pinot Noir (apparently the first Pinot Noir planted in the Russian River Valley) and Chardonnay. The Chardonnay turned heads, as the 1973 Chateau Montelena which won the infamous 1976 Paris Tasting was partially (70%) sourced from this vineyard. The entire family still works and manages the day-to-day operations.
Tasting Notes: Notes of pineapple, honeyed lemon, toasted bread, and just a touch of nuttiness emerge from the 2021 Chardonnay Bacigalupi, a richer, textured, yet still balanced, lively Chardonnay. It has classic Russian River style as well as good freshness and purity. Only 270 cases of this gem were produced!
Winemaker Notes: “Our 2021 Bacigalupi Vineyards Chardonnay starts off with intensely floral with aromas of honeysuckle, white peach, pear, and some tropical notes as well as passion fruit and a bit of pineapple. The aromas are truly beautiful. The palate is very stone fruit driven on the front and then lemon-lime oil and zest on the mid-palate and finish. This wine has great acidity and a good balance of texture. Absolutely delicious.
