Jeb Dunnuck 97 Points: “The 2022 Pinot Noir Radian Vineyard is also off-the-hook good and shows the talent of this winemaker with reds as well as whites. Black raspberries, crushed stone, pressed flowers, and some background black tea notes all define the aromatics, and it’s medium to full-bodied, has a seamless, elegant mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. Coming all from the Radian Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills, all destemmed, and aged 12 months in 18% new oak, it’s going to deliver the goods for 7-8 years at a minimum.”

Paul Lato 2021 “Atticus” Pinot Noir John Sebastiano Vineyard, Sta. Rita Hills 97 Points
$94.99
Jeb Dunnuck 97 Points: “Another Sta. Rita Hills release, the 2021 Pinot Noir Atticus John-Sebastiano Vineyard was destemmed and spent 16 months in 66% new French oak. It reveals a translucent ruby hue followed by an awesome bouquet of redcurrants, framboise, dried rose petals, and savory herbs. Medium-bodied, balanced, and elegant, it has incredible tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish. Give bottles a year or two and enjoy over the following decade.”

Cobb 2018 Pinot Noir Doc’s Ranch “Swan and Calera” Selection” 97 Points
$95.00
Robert Parker 97 Points: “The 2018 Pinot Noir Doc’s Ranch Swan & Calera Selection is scented of red cherries and cranberries with tones of bitter citrus, tobacco leaves, dried flowers and Angostura bitters. Light-bodied, silty and incredibly fresh, its slim frame holds a surprising amount of pure, crunchy fruits, and it finishes with tremendous length and spicy layers. The Swan clone fruit included in this cuvée comes from vines planted in 1995, and the Calera clones were planted in 2011. It’s another 2018 from the Cobb portfolio that offers both ageability and immediate appeal.”
Paul Lato 2021 “il Padrino” Syrah Bien Nacido Vineyard, Santa Maria Valley 98+ Points
$114.99
Jeb Dunnuck 98+ Points: “In contrast, the 2021 Syrah Il Padrino Bien Nacido Vineyard is more masculine and feral, with ripe black fruits, cracked black pepper, leather, iron, and spring flowers, and a certain bloody character developing with time in the glass. Medium to full-bodied, it has a similar level of polish but is a touch more concentrated and lengthy on the palate, with ripe, building tannins and awesome length. Drink this spectacular Syrah over the coming 10-12 years.”

Colgin 2018 Cariad Proprietary Red Blend Napa Valley 100 Points
$950.00 $799.99
Vinous 100 Points: : “The 2018 Cariad is breathtaking right out of the gate. What a wine! Bright acids and beams of underlying structure give the Cariad tons of energy that really drives its feel. Effusive and vibrant in the glass, with tons of pedigree, Cariad is drop-dead gorgeous in 2018. Winemaker Allison Tauziet opted not to use Petit Verdot in this vintage, choosing instead to use a bit more Franc. I can’t really say the wine is missing the Petit Verdot, while the Franc seems to give added aromatic explosiveness. Then again, all of this fruit is sourced from David Abreu’s Madrona Ranch, a stellar site with a stunning array of clones, including some pretty magical Franc.”

Sanguis 2019 The Bossman Syrah based Red Blend 96 Points
$94.99
Jeb Dunnuck 95 Points: “The 2018 Bossman is also Syrah-dominated (70%) yet is a more eclectic blend that includes 10% each of Viognier, Grenache, and Cabernet Franc. It saw roughly 30% stems and the standard, longer élevage favored by Matthias, spending 25 months in 35% new barrels. I love the purity of fruit here, and it has a perfumed bouquet of blueberries, cherries, violets, and ground pepper as well as this Côte Rôtie-like sense of minerality. Medium to full-bodied, pure, and layered, it has the class to drink well today yet also evolve for 10-15 years. It’s a stunning Santa Ynez Syrah blend.”

There’s 9% Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend, and it was raised in 75% new French oak. I’d be thrilled to drink a glass any time over the coming 10-15 years.”

Paul Lato 2021 “Suerte” Pinot Noir, Solomon Hills Vineyard, Santa Maria Valley 95 Points
$100.00
Jeb Dunnuck 95 Points: “I always love Lato’s Pinot Noir from this site, and his 2021 Pinot Noir Suerte Solomon Hills Vineyard is no exception. Revealing a ruby hue as well as gorgeous notes of wild strawberries, black tea, toasted spice, and exotic flowers, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a round, layered, supple texture, integrated tannins, and outstanding length. Drink this more up-front, fruit-loaded, gorgeous Pinot Noir over the coming 5-7 years.”
